Having studied Project Management as a major part of my undergraduate program gave me the impression that the Project and Team Management course at Full Sail wouldn’t be any different. I will not deny, but I was completely wrong about it. Initially I was under the impression that all I was going to learn is creating excel sheets and budgeting for projects. This course definitely did cover all that, but also taught me about human behavior and personalities. To break it down further, we deep dived into learning about behavioral archetypes such as Dominance, Influence Steadfast and Compliance. Learning about these archetypes and how each one of them can resonate to individuals helped me relate to my past experiences. In class we reviewed some case studies by watching documentaries of personalities and influential individuals. This helped me understand human behavior to certain situations and circumstances. All our case studies were group discussions, which really broadened the pool of perspective and feedback provided by fellow classmates. This really helped me read and understand my classmates’ perception about the subject of the case study.
The learning and knowledge I have gained from this course can be applied in both personal and as well as professional life. Learning about different personality traits has definitely helped me understand human behavior. In the professional world, it is very important to read and understand your fellow colleagues and peers. With the knowledge I have acquired in this course, I definitely have a better understanding as to how to deal with individuals with different traits and personalities. In the industry, I will come across people who have dominating, influential, steadfast or compliant personalities. Each one of these cannot be dealt with in a similar manner, hence the learning about each of these traits has broadened my pool of knowledge and be more strategic in my approach towards people with different behavioral traits.
This course of Project and Team Management has definitely taught me about methodologies and common practices but also taught me how to read people. Knowing about the gaming industry and its expansion, I’m sure of having to work with a team where I will encounter many with different personality and behavioral traits. It is very important to understand your peers, especially in a group project as it can affect team dynamics. Hence facilitating on common grounds with people who have different personalities will be beneficial to a team’s dynamics.
